Studio Shards has been my opportunity to fulfil a lifetime’s ambition - to produce artwork that I love to make and that people love to receive.

For as long as I can remember I have always felt driven to create, whether to paint, draw or sculpt. My work is inspired by living close to the coast in West Sussex and spending a great deal of time in Cornwall. Taking inspiration from walking, being immersed in the landscape in all weathers and looking at nature, plays an essential part of my practice and is undoubtedly the foundation for my work.

Over many years I have developed my craft and although I studied Art at college, I am completely self-taught. I was drawn to fragility and diversity of working with glass. I love the rich colours and the excitement of opening up the kiln to see what alchemy has occurred. The fact that I was a painter first makes my work different.

Ten short years ago I took a leap of faith and left my successful career in secondary teaching to dedicate time to my passion for design and creativity and to give me greater flexibility for my family.  Studio Shards was born and I haven't looked back since!
